1 Thessalonians 4:3 (NIV)
“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality.”
Holiness is God’s will for every believer. It is a calling to be set apart, to live a life that reflects the character of God. The word “sanctified” means to be made holy, purified, and dedicated to God’s purposes. In 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Paul emphasizes that God’s will for us is our sanctification—a process of being conformed to the image of Christ.
But what does holiness look like in our daily lives? It’s not about perfection but daily striving towards the mark of our higher calling. Holiness is demonstrated in our decisions, thoughts, and actions. When we pursue holiness, we intentionally separate ourselves from sin and draw closer to God. This is not something we achieve in our own strength but through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 12:1 (NIV) urges us, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Holiness is a lifestyle of worship. It’s about surrendering our desires and will to God’s greater plan for our lives.
The pursuit of holiness often requires sacrifice. It means letting go of actions, habits, thoughts, and relationships that hinder our walk with God. Hebrews 12:14 (NIV) says, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Our pursuit of holiness allows others to see God’s presence in our lives, making our witness about Christ more effective.
Holiness is not a burdensome rule but a beautiful reflection of God’s love in us. As we seek holiness, we become vessels of honor, ready to be used by God for His purposes (2 Timothy 2:21, NIV). Every day is an opportunity to walk in alignment with God’s will and experience the peace, joy, and fulfillment that come from living a life set apart for his glory.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for calling me to a life of holiness. I know that your will for me is to be sanctified and set apart for your purposes. Lord, I ask for your strength and guidance as I pursue a holy life. Help me to surrender my desires to you and remove anything in my heart that does not reflect your character. Fill me with your Holy spirit and empower me to walk in obedience, in Jesus’ name.
Grace, peace and calvary greetings.
